Butterfly valve

Butterfly valve is quarter turn rotary action valve used to stop, regulate and start flow.

Butterfly valves are easy and quick to open. Turning the handle 90° will allow the valve to fully close or open. Large Butterfly valves are usually equipped with a gearbox in which the gear wheel is attached to the body. This simplifies the operation of the valve.

Butterfly Valve Types

1- Wafer Type

2- Lug Type

3- Semi-Lug Type

4- Double Flanged Type

Typical applications of butterfly valves

A Butterfly valve can be used in many different non-critical applications and performs well in Slurry applications. Some typical applications of butterfly valves are given below:

Cooling water, air, gases, fire protection, etc.

Slurry and similar services

vacuum service

High pressure and high temperature water and steam services

Advantages of butterfly valves

Compact design requires much less space compared to other valves

is light

Fast operation requires less time to open or close

Available in very large sizes

Low pressure drop and high pressure recovery

Cheaper price

Disadvantages of butterfly valves

Throttle service is limited to low differential pressure

Cavitation and blocked flow are two possible concerns

Disc motion is unguided and affected by flow turbulence
